What are Asset Types?

Asset types determine how specific your localized image is. There are three levels:
TypeShows toUse Case
CityVisitors from a specific city”Houston skyline”
StateVisitors from anywhere in a state”Texas landscape”
SitewideEveryone (default fallback)Generic brand image

How the Fallback Works

When a visitor loads your page:
1. Check for CITY match → Show city image
   ↓ (no match)
2. Check for STATE match → Show state image
   ↓ (no match)
3. Show SITEWIDE image (or original)
Example:
  • Visitor from Houston, TX
  • City image for Houston exists? → Show it
  • No Houston image, but Texas image exists? → Show Texas
  • No Texas image? → Show sitewide/original

When to Use Each Type

City-Level Assets

Best for:
  • Local landmarks and recognizable locations
  • City-specific promotions
  • Multi-location businesses
Example: Different storefront photos for each city

State-Level Assets

Best for:
  • Regional campaigns
  • State-specific services
  • When city-level is too granular
Example: One image for all of Texas, one for California

Sitewide Assets

Best for:
  • Default/fallback images
  • Non-location-specific content
  • Brand images that work everywhere
Example: Generic hero image for visitors outside target areas

Choosing the Right Type

When generating images, start broad and get more specific:
1

Start with Sitewide

Create a default image that works for everyone. This ensures all visitors see something, even if they’re not in your target cities.
2

Add State-level images

Create state-specific images to provide regional coverage. These serve as fallbacks for cities within those states.
3

Add City-specific images

Create targeted images for specific cities with recognizable landmarks or locations. These take priority over state and sitewide images.
